I took this photo of my son. A week later wrote this e-mail to a friend:


I took this photo on Sunday at Bronte beach (this was before the museum).

 I watched him climb up on top of one of the picnic shelters.

I guess he climbed up onto it because it was there

He had this little plastic sword in his hand. He thrust the sword up into the sky

and looked straight up into the dark storm clouds that were brewing above.

He was defiant, like he was daring the gathering storm to do its worst.

Or like he had won some great victory.

He stood there, fearless, with his toy sword, in triumph, long enough for me

 to take this photo.

It was a just moment.
